BOONWURRUNG NGARGEE
DANCE GROUP

ABOUT

Boonwurrung Ngargee (pronounced Nar- ghee) Dance Group is a collective of First Nations young women living on the lands of the Kulin Nation,
in Melbourne, Australia.

Boonwurrung Ngargee Dance Program is an opportunity for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and women to connect to culture and Country, learn Boonwurrung language and stories and develop their cultural and creative expression through the teaching of First Nations dancers and artists.

The program is ran under the cultural guidance of Senior Boonwurrung Elder, N'arweet Carolyn Briggs and the Creative Direction of Thara Brown, along with other First Nations creatives including Zoe Brown-Holten.

The young women meet regularly to learn stories, practice culture, rehearse and participate in ceremony and performance opportunities.

"Ngargee has provided my daughters with not only a platform to express themselves through dance but also a sense of belonging.  This has been very important given our distance to family members.  The group’s commitment to preserving and promoting Indigenous culture through dance is commendable and has enriched my daughters’ lives in numerous ways."
